the very basis for radical candor is care

it was a wake-up call, alright. my boss told us all the raw, unpleasant truth. he said ai was coming for our jobs — even his.

he sent a very candid memo in our private slack channel, which he then shared on linkedin, that spelled out everything we could do to save ourselves from being replaced.

he started by telling us to study, research, and master the latest ai solutions in our field, and figure out which ones give us “superpowers.” i didn't even know ai could do that.

so instead of going about my normal day and producing anything of value, i dived right in and spent six months studying to become a prompt engineer. i paid $399 to the first guy i found on youtube, who helped me level-up my prompting for the ai future. now i know how to write good when i talk to my computer, which feels like a superpower.

as my ceo said, google is dead, and my value will decrease before i know it if i don't learn how to use gen-ai. so i jumped in to help the company achieve its goals using ai tools and technologies. little did i know i was still “working like it's 2024” — which is the wrong move! he made it clear i'm expected and needed to do more, faster, and more efficiently now — and gosh darnit, i plan to do so!

i'm so thankful he sent this cold-shower reminder of the new reality of our inevitable future. i want to join my ceo on the winning side of history, where he firmly stands, and to make sure that the ai coming for my job can very easily have it.
